If left on longer, it sometimes roughs the surface up a little. And I use Windsor and Newton colorless masking fluid. There are some that dry colored, but some of them can stain the paper. I had one by Shiva, and it was pretty good at first but by the time I got to the bottom of the bottle it started staining the paper a yellowish color. So I just stick with Windsor and Newton now.ElvenstarArthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07066944713059681546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3824092327889642957.post-52354081238631315822012-07-13T12:24:42.216-07:002012-07-13T12:24:42.216-07:00love what you did so far the colors are beautiful ...love what you did so far the colors are beautiful it really does give it a night/moonlight look, i have masking fluid and never tried it, mostly out of fear i will damage the paper when removing it, but makes it so much easier when doing background colors and not being scared getting color to the areas you dont want to.Katerina Koukiotishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11776432874347475518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3824092327889642957.post-7727775893004841572012-07-13T10:11:38.716-07:002012-07-13T10:11:38.716-07:00Wow, it's coming along so well!

Up until now, that is what I've been doing for all of my artwork (except ACEO-5x7"). I only seems to run into problems with the larger paintings, maybe 9x12" and larger. Just taping them down isn't quite good enough. I've always managed to make the paintings work out, but this year I've messed up 2 beyond saving. So I figured it was time to try out stretching.ElvenstarArthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07066944713059681546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3824092327889642957.post-41856045061478833092012-07-12T12:43:06.963-07:002012-07-12T12:43:06.963-07:00it looks wondeful rebecca glad you got it to work ...it looks wondeful rebecca glad you got it to work the second time around! the gummy tape sounds a bit easier to handle than staples , do you think it works if you stable a paper without stretching it? i often find artists tape really doesn't hold papers that well especially if you do a lot of background washes so many times i had to re-tape a few areas.Love the skintones you painted!Katerina Koukiotishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11776432874347475518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3824092327889642957.post-32928906693343126862012-07-11T08:53:09.477-07:002012-07-11T08:53:09.477-07:00This first attempt was a failure. I've learned...This first attempt was a failure. I've learned that foam board is not a good surface. I was afraid that it might not work on it but I hoped it would. Since it absorbed some of the water the whole surface curved as it dried. I'm going to update this blog in a little bit with pics. I now have a second attempt drying stapled to hardboard. Hopefully this will work better. At the moment, I have to use materials I already have since I don't have a good art supplies store nearby, and I don't want to wait for an online order if I don't have to. I'll update soon with how it goes...

And yes, once it is done, you take the staples out and detach it.
